A non-molestation order is a court order that stops someone from using or threatening violence against you, or from harassing, intimidating or pestering you. It can cover your children too. Breaching a non-molestation order is a criminal offence, which gives it real weight.
You can apply for a non-molestation order against a partner or former partner, but the law also covers a wider group of people, including family members, someone you live or have lived with, or someone you share a child with. We can help you work out whether your situation qualifies.
Where you need protection quickly, it’s possible to apply without notifying the other person first. In urgent cases, the court can grant an order the same day, with a further hearing listed shortly afterwards where the other person has the chance to respond.
We know that asking for this kind of help can feel like a big step, particularly if you’re worried about how the other person will react, or what it might mean for any children involved. We’ll listen to what’s happened, explain your options clearly and move quickly when speed matters. You don’t need to have decided on court action before you talk to us. We can also advise on how a non-molestation order works alongside other protections, such as an occupation order dealing with who stays in the family home.
