Amelia Canham

I moved to the South West from Oxford in 2014, and it’s been home ever since. I joined Chubb Bulleid in 2018 as a legal secretary and moved across to the Ops team in 2020, working my way up to Compliance Manager. Outside work, I’m usually reading, baking, or up to something new — my latest project was sewing a lehenga for my cousin’s wedding.

What I do

I work across the whole business as Compliance Manager, supporting colleagues with the regulatory side of what they do. That means advising on money laundering regulations, client due diligence, and conflicts of interest, among other things. Rather than sitting in one department, I’m a point of contact for anyone who needs guidance on getting the compliance side of a matter right. It’s varied work — no two days look quite the same, and I’m often solving slightly different problems for different teams.

What’s the most rewarding part of your work?

Helping colleagues feel confident that they’ve got things right. Compliance can feel like a minefield, so being the person who can cut through that is genuinely satisfying.

What do you do when you’re not in the office?

I’m usually curled up with a book, round the table for a board game, or halfway through some DIY project I’ve probably underestimated!
