Alex Leeks

I am a solicitor specialising in in agricultural property and I work from both our Wells and Taunton offices. I qualified in October 2026 after joining Chubb Bulleid as a trainee two years earlier. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with my clients and the other professionals I work alongside.

What I do

On a day to day basis, I deal with a variety of property-related matters. This includes the sale or purchase of small parcels of land, as well as transfers of large areas of rural land and farms. This often involves transfers of part requiring consideration of rights, covenants, access and services. I also assist on matters involving leases.

I particularly enjoy acting in auction transactions. This includes acting for buyers in the review of auction packs prior to the auction and acting for successful bidders, as well as preparing auction packs for land and properties due to be sold. I enjoy building a relationship with clients from the outset and navigating them through the auction process.

I often act for clients who are thinking to the future and seeking to transfer farmland to their children or other members of their family. This can include gifts and transfers of land, but it can also involve piecing together unregistered title deeds.

My work also includes other property-related matters, such as wayleave agreements and grazing licences.

What is the most rewarding part of your work?

I find it most rewarding to help clients find solutions and navigate the legal complexities that can arise in transactions. It can be daunting for clients when issues arise that were not initially foreseeable, but it is rewarding to be able to identify any potential issues early in the transaction and work with clients to identify the most efficient and practical solutions for achieving their goals.

What do you do when you’re not in the office?

When I am not in the office there is a good chance that I am either watching or playing some kind of sport. I play hockey for my local team and help out with coaching too. I also enjoy playing tennis, going on long walks and running, having completed several events raising money for charity. I am a Bath Rugby fan and a day out watching Bath playing at The Rec with family and friends is always great fun.

What is something clients are often surprised to learn about you?

I won a national cup competition and won every game in the league in the same season with my hockey club. As a result of reaching the final of the cup competition, I played at the Olympic stadium in London, which was a very proud moment for me and for the club to win its first national trophy!
